BACK TO SCHOOL 2020/2021: BAMENDA II COUNCIL PREPARES THE GROUND

Bamenda II council like any other council area in the Northwest Region has been in chaos for the past four years now a situation that has deprived a lot of children of school going age from the prestigious gold of education that could only be found in Bamenda most especially Bamenda II council area which harbors some of the finest schools in Cameroon. It is for this reason, the Bamenda II council has decided to brave the odds and take the bull by the horns with a magnificent back to school preparation.

 Mayor Chenwi Peter of the Bamenda II Council, who from his very first day at the helm of the council decided to invest on humanity in his municipality, could not relent to see that the children of his municipality get back to the classrooms.

In an event to assist the children with the necessary didactic materials as well as financial assistance to persons with visual impairments, the mayor made it categorically clear that education is power. He called on all the quarter heads, religious leaders and all stakeholders in Bamenda II to scrupulously mobilize the children for an effective resumption of schools come October 5 after the long and dreadful four academic years gone down.

The didactic materials were comprised of exercise books, school bags, pens, pencils, rulers, and mathematical sets.  In the area of transportation, given that the circulation of motor bikes have been restricted in some areas of the municipality, the mayor announced that the council has made available 10 city taxis which will help carry students to and from school free of charge.

“if a parent is having difficulties in taking his/her children to school they should call the council and a taxi shall be made available for free for them to take their children to school.” The mayor also promised to give scholarships to brilliant students and also to persons with disability as a means of support to the parents. “80% of the council's budget will go for education”, said the Mayor.

 Should the children go back to school come Monday October 5, 2020 Peter Chenwi the Bamenda II municipal head maintained that ministers FELIX MBAYU and  Atanga Nji Paul will increase the number of taxis and also support the students with school fees. The mayor cautioned the parents not to collect the items and keep their children back at home.

The ceremony had in attendance the sub divisional delegates for basic and secondary education who all challenged parents to send their children to schools as well as the teachers should endeavor to be present to teach the children. 

The divisional delegate for basic education on his part challenged the parents and teachers with some riddles for them to interpret “teachers think about a man in a teacher and a teacher in a man while parents should think about a man in a parent and a parent in a man.”

The DO for Bamenda II, NICOLAS NKONGHO who is the campaign leader of the back to school campaign in Bamenda II, reminded the beneficiaries that there is time for everything. “There is time for war and there is time for peace and this is the time for peace in Bamenda II. “  Congratulating the students and parents who have celebrated success in the general certificate examinations he said “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, my tool to become a leader was a pen, and the tool to become a leader is a pen and not a gun.”  The D.O went further to caution parents to send all their children of school going ages to school for a commission shall be delegated to go round the sub division to check on the children who are not in school, and any parent who will fall victim of not sending his/her child to school shall be punished accordingly.

At the end of the day the children were all happy to have receive the gifts and promised not to disappoint the Mayor, for that reason they shall work hard in school so that they can become educated and someday be in authority.
