JUNE 19th: WORLD SICKLE CELL AWARENESS DAY.

World Sickle Cell Day is a United Nation’s recognised day to raise awareness on sickle cell at a national and international level.   On December 22, 2008, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing sickle cell disease as a public health problem and “one of the world’s foremost genetic diseases.” The resolution calls for members to raise awareness of sickle cell on the 19th of June each year. The international awareness day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.  Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder usually diagnosed at birth. Most people with the disease begin to show symptoms by 4 months of age or shortly thereafter. Genes come in pairs.   Voluntary Blood donor World Blood Donor Day is observed June 14 every year accross the globe, this to raise awareness about the need to donate blood regularly to increase the availability of safe blood and its products for patients in need. This day is also an occasion to thank donors who volunteer to donate the life-saving gift of blood. This also acts as an encouragement for others who are otherwise hesitant to volunteer in the noble cause. BAMENDA II COUNCIL: MAYOR CHENWI PETER HANDS OVER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE BAMENDA REGIONAL HOSPITAL.

  Mayor Chenwi handing over financial assistance. 64 patients at the Bamenda Regional Hospital have benefited from a donation of one million francs CFA, this to help pay their medical bills.  The donation made on Saturday June 5, 2021 by the Mayor of Bamenda ll Council, Chenwi Peter was aimed at reaching out to some patients who are unable to pay their medical bills.  Mayor Chenwi Peter said that, he was motivated to visite the Bamenda Regional hospital which is a referral hospital within his municipality due to the several application files from patients requesting the assistance of the council to meet up with their medical bills.
