NORTH WEST: "SECURITY SITUATION WARRANTS CHANGE OF APPROACH." SAYS DEFENSE MINISTER

Defense Minister chairing Security meeting 

 Given the recent happenings within the North West Region in connection with the socio-political crisis, the Minister Delegate incharge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo was in Bamenda on Wednesday September 22, 2021 to evaluate the situation.

Charged by the President of the Republic, Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister Delegate incharge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo chaired a security evaluation meeting motivated by the recent attacks perpetrated on Defense and Security Forces by seperatist fighters who are in possession of dangerous and sophisticated war weapons within the North West Region. 

Speaking in the presence of the Governor of the North West Region Adolphe Lele Lafrique, the Commander of the 5th Joint military Region, Brigadier General Nka valere and the Commander of the 5th Gendarmerie Region, Brigdier General Ekongwesse Divine, the Minster Delegate in Charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo said that the security situation in the North West and South West Regions, needs a change of approach in the actions carryout by the Defense and Security Forces on the ground. 

"This new paradigm of the security situation, which is already in the process of consolidation in this Region, as in that the South West, warrants a change of approach in the action of the Defense and Security Forces." Said the Minister.

In the Course of the meeting, the Defense boss transmitted a condolence message from the Head of state, Commander-in-chief of the Armed forces to the bereaved families of fallen soldiers, the Defense and Security family and to the families of civilians who are caught in between the fighting.

Minster Joseph Beti Assomo, made it clear that the Defense and Security Forces remain united and determined to protect the territorial integrity of the state and to bring back normalcy in the North West and South West Regions. However, he called on those still carrying arms to drop them and join the state in the reconstruction process which is already being implemented by the government.

The Security meeting was highly attended by top Administrative and Military officers of the Region who have always called on the population to collaborate with the Defense and Security forces inorder for peace to return in the North West Region.
