Beacon of Light Association (BeLA) a Non Governmental Organization with the main aim of building safe spaces for all especially women and girls, on wednesday May 6, 2020 organized a campaign to sensitize the population of Bamenda on Covid -19.

Their fist stop was at PMI hospital Nkwen, where the association donated a tap bucket at the entrance to the hospital. While at the hospital nursing mothers and pregnant women were educated on preventive methods to fight against the spread of the Corona virus. The association also use to the opportunity to encourage female health workers and women care givers reminding them of the need to be protect themselves as they watch over their patients.

From the hospital, the campaign team carried the same message to motor parks and other public places around Nkwen targetting women and girls who according to BeLA are the most expose to the virus.

On motorbikes the campaign team moved to the Nkwen market, here the association stationed a tap bucket, distributed a good number of face mask and soap to the market women. Mrs Wango Eleen the Founder and CEO of BeLA says they are inspired from previous situations in which women and girls were more venerable and such is the case with covid-19.

She added that during this period of quarantine past experience have shown that most women are victims of Genda Base Violence (GBV). She told women to protect themselves and report all cases of such violence to the competent authorities.

Beacon of Light Association in the days ahead intend to organize more of such campaigns and workshops to empower women and girls so as to put a barrier to the spread of Covid 19.
