GENERAL RENE CLAUDE MEKA, CHIEF OF STAFF CAMEROON ARMED FORCES EVALUATES SECURITY SITUATION IN BAMENDA

 

Review of Troops by the Chief of staff 

A delegation from the Ministry of Defense headed by the Chief of staff of the Cameroon Armed Forces, General René Claude Meka landed at the Bamenda - Bafut airport on Thursday April 8, 2021 for a one day working visit. 

 To received the Senior Army officer, at the airport was the Commander of the 5th joint Military Major General NKA valere alongside the Commander of the Gendarmerie Region Major General Ekongwesse Divine flanked by top defense and security officials of the Region.

After an in camera meeting which lasted over 2 hours, the Chief of staff of the Cameroon armed forces General Réne Claude Meka said his mission to Bamenda is to evaluate the security situation after Major military operations have been carried out on the ground to counter the activities of separatist fighters. 

 Since the crisis in the North West and South West Regions escalated into an armed conflict, the chief of staff has regularly visited these 2 Regions.

Meeting with top Military officials oo the Region 

"After a very long period of intense operations and given the Major Sport Competition organised by our country, it was necessary for me to come and have a meeting with the Commanders leading operations to protect the integrity of our country. Together we have examine the Situation and there is no much to worry about given the presence of our soldiers on the ground."
Said General Meka.

The visit of the Chief Staff of the Cameroon armed forces to Bamenda comes at a time when the security situation of the North  West Region is still questionable given the recent killings in Mbengwi and the kidnapping of the Chief of center at the Bamenda DDR Center.
