Health equipment worth FCFA 500million |
Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique has challenged stakeholders of the North West Region to revamp the battle against Covid-19 especially the Chief town Bamenda. The Governor was speaking on Tuesday July 21, 2020 as he presided at the ceremony to hand over Covid-19 relief equipment’s worth 500million CFA Francs donated by the Head of State President Paul Biya to the regional hospital and some district hospitals in the Region.

In his key note address, Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique underscored the love and concern the Head of State has for the population of the North West Region, reasons for coming to the rescue of those under his care by joining the fight against the dreaded corona virus. The chief executive officer of the region used the occasion to applaud the job done by the director of the regional hospital Bamenda Dr. Denis Nsame and the medical staff in the region for taking care of Covid-19 patients while regretting on the shock they are being put through by those who are recalcitrant in respecting the barrier measures against Covid-19 and as well the death of some medical personnel linked with the pandemic.

”Even if the medical personnel are doing their job properly to treat or rescue us, there are still some resistance in the population as they behave as if there is no problem. I will like to say it here loud and clear after the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the government that, there is a serious problem because we have more than 400 cases that has been recorded only in the city of Bamenda being the core of the virus and if care is not taken, Bamenda will spread the coronavirus to other areas including those areas without traces of the virus.” The Governor said.

Though regretting that the population no longer respects the barrier measures to combat the disease, the Governor has however, called on all stakeholders of the Region to renew strategies to help put an end to the pandemic in the Region.
While welcoming the Governor and his entourage, the City Mayor described the 500million worth equipment’s as valuable in that it takes understanding of the users to applaud the government for it
“It is through the love of the government for the people of this Region, these gifts are a mark of love.” Paul Achobong said.
The equipment’s made available by the Head of State through the Minister of Territorial Administration is comprised of 280 complete beds,06 X-ray machines,06 minor X-ray surgery kits and 07 portable ultrasound.

Presenting the distribution of the equipment’s to the 11 beneficiary district hospitals in the region, the Regional Delegate of Public Health Dr. Kingsley Che Soh explained that due to the high expenses recorded at the Azam Hotel quarantine center, 80 beds have been reserved to the low cost houses earmarked quarantine center at upstation Bamenda that will soon be receiving hospitalized quarantine patients. Dr. Che Soh used the opportunity to speak on behalf of the medical staff of the Region in expressing thanks for the timely donation of the medical equipment’s to some health facilities in the Region and pledged to use the materials for its rightful purpose.
