As part of measures to prevent any
occurrence of covid-19 in the city of Bamenda, the city mayor said after having updates from other countries and how people die of the virus on daily basis, it was time enough for him not to sit and fold his hands but to enforce measures to get the population join in the fight against cleanliness and the battle against covid-19.
The recent action by the city mayor Paul Achombong in a sensitization meeting which brought together Hysacam officials, officials of the Bamenda regional hospital, market masters, market association leaders, fire brigade, well to do business men and women and the city council authorities, were all in line to strengthen the 13 measures put in place Government and that the minister of Decentralization and Local Development Paul Elanga Obam in a circular letter instructed all the city mayors and mayors to employ measures that will effectively combat the pandemic in their respective council areas which includes the situation of markets and the organization of the transport sector amongst others.
Some stakeholders in the meeting

City mayor Paul Achombong elaborated to the stakeholders that there was need for the inhabitants in the city of Bamenda to collectively join the fight against covid-19 which he laid emphasis that it would begin with hygiene and sanitation by cleaning all the markets in the city and earmarked streets from city chemist roundabout to commercial avenue to T-junction, savannah street, big mankon, finance junction to governors junction, Nkwen market, main market, food market.
After the cleaning which is been done by Hysacam, Friday has been set aside for the dis-infection of the earmarked areas as no commercial activity shall be done on Friday April 3,2020 in those areas as well as all travel agencies too will be dis-infected and those entering the region. Traders, who have kiosks with extensions along the streets, will be remove in a move to decongest the streets for proper dis-infection. The city mayor believes the exercise will be a step towards ensuring a good method of prevention to curb Covid-19 and the health situation of the citizens whom he challenged to take the responsibility themselves to stay clean. The city mayor added his voice to other Cameroonian authorities to warn parents not to send their kids to the streets to hawk but exhorted them to keep them at home for they might contract the virus while rooming the streets and they will be the ones to pay the price of getting infected.
With the plan of action not haven’t been approved as a national plan, the city mayor thinks that the time to act is now than just to wait reasons why persons of goodwill have been called upon to support the initiative through the city council.

As the number of affected cases of the coronavirus keep skyrocketing, the Northwest region is so far yet to have an infected case as some inhabitants in the region are carefully applying the measures of the Government while others deter others from applying the measures but in private make use of the measures as the new ways of greeting and hand washing is gradually becoming a part of the life style of the population and other hygienic measures.
